Our purpose

Make visual change easier to understand

BeforeAfter.online is a collection of focused comparison tools. It helps people turn two images into a reveal video, drag an interactive boundary, inspect an opacity overlay, view images side by side, or alternate them with a flicker effect.

The project emphasizes clear output controls rather than a complicated general-purpose editor. You choose the two images, the comparison method, and the output appropriate to the audience.

Why browser-local image processing?

Photos may contain personal, commercial, or unreleased information. The comparison tools use browser features such as FileReader, Canvas, MediaRecorder, and local memory so selected image content does not need to be submitted to our server.

This design also removes account creation and avoids waiting for server-side rendering. Browser capabilities still differ, so the video maker reports whether MP4 or WebM is available before export.

What the tools do

Principles

  • Useful before decorative: controls and explanations should solve a real comparison problem.
  • Honest output: the site explains cropping, browser format differences, and source-image limitations.
  • Privacy-aware: selected image content is processed locally.
  • Accessible improvement: keyboard focus, semantic structure, readable contrast, and status messages are treated as product requirements.
  • No invented social proof: examples are identified as illustrations, not customer results or testimonials.
